Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
This post by Mr. McLeod is very different from the other post we have been assigned to read. I really enjoyed reading Mr. McLeod's thoughts about using technology in the schools. I believe that technology is going to take over the schools. Students taking notes with pens and paper will not exist in a couple of years. I think that having kids use the internet and keep up with a blog is a wonderful idea. Knowing that the students will be able to interact with students world wide is awesome. Yes, we have to teach these kids to use the internet safely and only go to sites that are appropriate. We need to make sure they understand the pros and cons of the internet. One of the major cons is that people may not be who they say they are. With young kids on Facebook and Twitter, it is our job to make sure they only become friends or follow people they know.
Mr. Scott McLeod is a Professor at the University of Kentucky. He has won several awards based on his work with technology through schools.
Travis Allen
After watching Travis Allen's YouTube videos on iSchool, I thought it could be a good idea. Kids always have their phone with them. Having this on their phone, they have 24 hour access to their work. The work and assignments are already organized for them and easy to look at. The students can also interact with the teacher at all times. Plus having that kind of access on a phone will help the parents know what is going on in the classroom.
Lux Aurumque
The virtual choir is amazing! I cannot fathom that fact that these people have never performed together before or even met each other. Everything was done on the computer. After listening to it, you would have never known. This just comes to show you that the internet has no boundaries. People can do just about everything on the internet.
Teaching in the 21st Century
In this video, Robert shows us what it is like to teach in the 21st century. He goes on to tell us that teachers play a big part in students' life. A teacher can make or break a student. They are role models for students and they also help students prepare for the real world. Teachers should invest in our students and provide the information they need to succeed in life and not just pass for the year.
