Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?
This post by Mr. McLeod is very different from the other post we have been assigned to read. I really enjoyed reading Mr. McLeod's thoughts about using technology in the schools. I believe that technology is going to take over the schools. Students taking notes with pens and paper will not exist in a couple of years. I think that having kids use the internet and keep up with a blog is a wonderful idea. Knowing that the students will be able to interact with students world wide is awesome. Yes, we have to teach these kids to use the internet safely and only go to sites that are appropriate. We need to make sure they understand the pros and cons of the internet. One of the major cons is that people may not be who they say they are. With young kids on Facebook and Twitter, it is our job to make sure they only become friends or follow people they know.
Mr. Scott McLeod is a Professor at the University of Kentucky. He has won several awards based on his work with technology through schools.
Travis Allen
After watching Travis Allen's YouTube videos on iSchool, I thought it could be a good idea. Kids always have their phone with them. Having this on their phone, they have 24 hour access to their work. The work and assignments are already organized for them and easy to look at. The students can also interact with the teacher at all times. Plus having that kind of access on a phone will help the parents know what is going on in the classroom.
Lux Aurumque
The virtual choir is amazing! I cannot fathom that fact that these people have never performed together before or even met each other. Everything was done on the computer. After listening to it, you would have never known. This just comes to show you that the internet has no boundaries. People can do just about everything on the internet.
Teaching in the 21st Century
In this video, Robert shows us what it is like to teach in the 21st century. He goes on to tell us that teachers play a big part in students' life. A teacher can make or break a student. They are role models for students and they also help students prepare for the real world. Teachers should invest in our students and provide the information they need to succeed in life and not just pass for the year.

Blog Post 4
Eagle Nest Radio
After listening to the podcast about ancient Rome, I could tell the third graders really researched their topics. The students were very well prepared for the podcast. I could tell they practiced what they were going to say before just recording the podcast. I actually learned some new information about the ancient Romans that I did not know before, like about the the building and the different architecture.
Benefits of Podcast
I liked the video about the Benefits of Podcast. This is a modern way for children to learn. Using this technology to learn makes learning more interesting to students rather than just reading information from a book. I liked the idea of the teacher uploading a podcast to iTunes when and if a child is absent from class. This way the student can still have access to everything that went on in the classroom. I also like the thought of the parents being able to listen and have a way to keep up with what their kids are doing and learning in the classroom.
EPN
I like the idea of this website. The idea to help teachers come up with topics for a podcast. This is one way to help teachers use technology for good and correctly. Any kind of question you can think of, you can find the answer on this website. This website has numerous of podcast topics and attached to the topic is a podcast. Therefore, the teachers do not even have to make a podcast if they do not know how to.

It's Not About the Technology
According to Ms. Hines, teaching is not about the technology. Teaching is about making sure your students learn the information and not just memorize it. Technology is used to help teachers achieve this goal. She proceeds to go through four things that are important for being a teacher, teachers must be learners, learning and teaching are not the same thing, technology is useless without good teaching, being a 21st teacher without the technology. Her statement about teachers being learning is true being that our world is constantly changing. There is always something that can be learned. Just because a teacher has "taught" the lesson does not mean the students have learned it. Students learn differently so teachers may have to teach the same material different ways so all students can grasp the lesson. Yes it is a good thing to have computers and smartboards in classrooms only if the teachers are using them to the students use.
When I was in school, I did not have computers in my classes to use. Taking this EDM class and using a computer for everything has really opened my eyes to how much more I can learn. Having technology incorporated in classes reaches out to students and makes learning fun.
Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
This blog post by Karl Fisch is about the underlining question of rather or not teachers should be technologically literate. I have always said yes, people in general should be able to everyday technology. After reading this post, I think so even more. Karl made a good point about being able to use computers and any other devices was not important a year ago. But now, this is what our world has revolved around. When students get into the real world and try to find jobs, they will need to know how to use computers.
Teachers are learners too. All teachers need to learn how to use the technology that is available to them. Having computers in classrooms will have the children learn hands on. You hear about this teachers using blogger and twitter which is so useful to learning.
Social Media
Watching these numbers increase so drastically within one second is astonishing. This numbers with people using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, iPhones is crazy. I never realized how many people are using the internet and what it all has to offer. Some of the things shown on the media I have never even heard of.
This is a good example of why people and teachers should technologically literate. This just comes to show you how many people are using the internet and everything on it.
A Vision of Students Today
This video really captures what it is like to be a student in college. We go to class to listen to the lecture for the day and take notes. But it is harder to learn the material if you are just listening to the teacher tell you what you need to learn rather than them finding interesting ways to teach us with videos, podcast, pictures, etc.
After watching this video I thought about teachers being technologically illiterate and this just shows you how everybody needs to be able to use the technology around them. Most of my teachers make powerpoints for the class notes but they are just filled with words. Listening to the teacher just ramble about the material is not the same as having the teacher "teach" us by showing us.

C4T Post 1
I was assigned to comment on Dr. Baggett's blog. One of her post that I commented on was a video on The Elements of Art. This video discussed the seven elements of art which are line, shape, form, space, color, value, and texture. The video went over each element and explained the term in more detail. Art can be made by just drawing lines on a page or drawing these lines to make a shape. Some art is made into a 3D picture or sculpture which gives that piece of art form. Most pieces art that have form take up space. They are mostly sculptures. Art also has color. Color is a big element in art. Color allows the artist to express themselves and express the mood of the art. The shade of the color is the value of the color. When different color values are by each other, they create texture. The texture is how the paint feels or looks. It can be rough or smooth, hard or soft, wet or dry. I did not not realize how much goes into creating art. Art has so many different elements and so putting all of them together create art.
I also commented on Dr. Baggett's post about Mr. Ricky. Mr. Ricky is a blind artist who paints by using his index finger. Mr. Ricky has an assistant who tells him where each color is on his plate of paint and he dips is index finger in the paint and begins to paint. He now has a talking computer and a color identifier which helps him pick out all the different colors. I was lucky enough too see him paint when I was in high school. He visited my art class and painted for us. Watching him paint was so amazing. Even though he has a disability, he does not let that get the best of him. He still lives his life and does what he loves to do like paint.
Kevin McLaughlin
Mr. McLaughlin posted on his blog about turning off technology for good. He says that teachers who have smartboards do not use them right. He says that teachers do not know how to use them for good and need to keep them away. I think the teachers should have to attend a class to learn how to use a smartboard correctly.
Larry Ferlazzo's Website of the Day
Mr. Larry blog post consist of useful websites. One of my favorite websites I found on his blog was Grockit Answers. This website lets you be able to keep all your studying material online with easy access. You can also watch a YouTube video and be able to create a quiz from that video. This seems like an easy way to test while using technology.
The second post I read from Mr. Larry was about Halloween candy, since Halloween is coming up. He found this video about the production of Halloween candy. The guy in the video also talked about the hard work it takes to make the candy. I did not know that candy was so hard to make, being that Americans eat so much of it.

Blog post #2
Did You Know
Did You Know by Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod is very interesting. Yes, I know how popular the internet is, but to think it only took 2 years for Facebook to reach 50 million people is unreal. If a computer is going to be built by the year 2013 that is going to be smarter than a human, jobs will be cut in half. People are not going to want to hire someone and pay them a certain wage when the company can easily purchase a computer to do the same. The overhead for buying the computer is so much greater than hiring a human. I also did not realize that our English vocabulary is made up with 540, 000 words. Where did all of these words come from is over half of them were not around when Shakespeare was writing poetry?
I also was unfamiliar with how smart India's kids are. The country more kids with an incredibly high IQ than The United States has kids. I do agree with technology changing every two years. Our world is all about technology these days, this video just makes me believe that even more. This video was uploaded in 2008, these facts are probably outdated by now according to the theory behind the video.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
Mr. Winkle Wakes is about how fast the world is changing. How all businesses are so technology advanced these days. Then Mr. Winkle goes into a school and the school has not changed at all. School has been the same for so long and teachers are still standing in front of the class giving lectures while the kids are taking notes.
I think that the more advance technology gets, then schools should start teaching kids how to use it. Teachers should use the technology in their classroom. Our world is evolved around computers and internet and this should be how teachers teach their kids.
Ken Robinson
Mr. Ken Robinson talks about the school system killing the creativity in children's mind. Children are eager to learn even if they do not know what to do for sure, they try. They will do what they think even if they are wrong. Like Mr. Ken says, children are growing out of creativity. Educator's are supposed to be educating young minds about the future when in reality nobody knows what the future is going to look like. The world is unpredictable.
The story about the dancer, Jane, not being able to sit still reminds me of people learn differently. He says that creativity is so important in schools. I agree with this because people learn differently. Some are visual learners while others learn by books and hearing. Some children are artistic learners but yet the art program in all schools are at the bottom. They are not considered to be important but with art comes creativity.
Scholastic News
We can have people like Cecelia Gault get a good education by teaching her some of our culture and having her teach the class some of her culture. Sir Ken Robinson says that traveling and learning about other countries' culture will help you become creative and be more open to the way others live and learn.
Harness Your Students' Digital Thoughts
This is video reminds me of how our class is set up. Vicki Davis is teaching her students through technology which is how we are learning. Not at all students are able to learn by a teacher standing in the front of class giving a lecture, therefore, this method of teaching reaches out to hand on students. Students need to do, to learn.
I agree with this method of teaching. When students graduate, they are not going to have someone standing there giving them instructions, they are going to have to figure things out on their own. Teaching kids in this environment is getting them ready for the real world.
